3D Technologies for Digital Picture Frames

Value Proposition

The Digital Picture Frame (DPF) market is a fully commoditized segment in desperate need of new technologies. 3D technology has the strong potential to energize this market. 3DMedia's technology goes beyond 3D display; it solves the problem of content generation by enabling consumers to create and enjoy their own personal 3D content. Currently, widespread generation of personal 3D content is not feasible due to the lack of cost effective 3D cameras. 3DMedia's solution allows consumers to use their existing digital cameras to capture images and videos that can be used to create 3D content for viewing on the 3D DPF. Our 3D technology provides a compelling case for consumers to buy 3D DPFs, as these products create a disruptive and unique market segment in terms of visual experience and engagement. A 3D DPF with 3Media's technology is not a passive product that displays pictures - it is an interactive device that engages with consumers. It allows them to create their own content using their camera and then to experience the excitement of personalized 3D displays. 3DMedia's value-added technology will be licensed to 3D DPF manufacturers to accelerate sales of DPFs. It will also be licensed to camera and cell phone manufacturers that want to offer products that provide a complete 3D capture and display solution.

3D Technology

All of 3DMedia's proprietary technologies are captured in its 3D creation software which creates 3D content from content captured with standard cameras. 3DMedia's principle strategy is to provide the experience and control of 3D content to the hundreds of millions of consumers that already own digital cameras and camcorders. 3DMedia strongly believes this technology will be one of the key enablers for the proliferation and adoption of 3D content in the consumer market.

3DMedia has developed a 3D DPF platform which uses our software to create 3D content from images taken by consumers' standard digital cameras and displays the resulting images and videos on the frame. The DPF uses an autostereoscopic LCD panel for 3D viewing without special glasses. The DPF also includes Wi-Fi capability for wireless access to the web with links to 3D pictures, videos, and other 3D content.

3DMedia's technology offers a very easy and straightforward process to create captivating 3D content:

  1. Take pictures using your standard camera
  2. Remove the card from the camera and insert it in the 3D DPF
  3. The 3D DPF identifies valid 3D image pairs, creates single 3D images from them, and displays them on the DPF

3DMedia's Technology Advantages

  • Our solution allows consumers to create 3D content and view it on their 3D DPFs without purchasing a new camera
  • Using our approach for 3D capture, the stereo base can be altered to enhance or reduce the depth of captured 3D images, which can yield more effective results when taking far away landscape pictures or close-up shots
  • Very straightforward process that allows consumers to use their existing cameras to capture both 2D and 3D content and store it on the same flash card
  • Very simple and enticing 3D user interface involves minimal user interaction
